“In the days of our fathers, wealth was measured by the size of a farm and the harvest from the soil.” – Unknown

That old saying reminds us of a time when agriculture was not just a practice but a way of life in Africa. Farming was respected, farmers were celebrated, and young people proudly followed their parents to the fields because they saw honor in producing food for the community. Agriculture was the backbone of our culture and our economy.

But somewhere along the way, that love began to fade. The bright lights of urban life, the rush for quick wealth, and the lack of strong agricultural policies made many people turn their backs on farming. The image of a farmer became tied to poverty instead of pride. This shift caused agriculture to lose the respect it once held, leaving many young Africans uninterested in working the land.

Today, however, we are standing at the beginning of a new trajectory. Slowly but surely, agriculture is being rediscovered. Technology, innovation, and fresh awareness are changing the story. From solar-powered irrigation to mobile apps that connect farmers directly to buyers, new solutions are breathing life back into the fields. We are seeing young Africans return to farming, not only as tradition but as a smart career that offers opportunity and dignity.

This new era is not about going back to the past but about blending the wisdom of our fathers with the tools of today. If we continue on this path, agriculture in Africa can rise again, stronger than before. The soil is the same, the passion is still in us, and with the right support, we can make farming the pride of Africa once more.

The question now is, are we ready to fully embrace this transformation or will we allow agriculture to remain only a memory of our past? The choice we make will shape not only the future of farming but the future of food security and prosperity in Africa.
